Batac DepEd unveils ‘Teacher’s Lounge’

Batac City—The Department of Education (DepEd) local office here formally unveiled the Teacher’s Lounge before 2016 ended.

City schools’ division superintendent Vilma Eda said the projects were inaugurated during the Batac fiesta’s “DepEd Day” last December.

Ms. Eda said the “Teacher’s Lounge” will serve as training center for teachers in the division level.

A part of DepEd’s rationalization program, the lounge is located at the Gabaldon building of Batac Central Elementary School; which is situated in the center of the city. The location, Ms. Eda said, gives more accessibility for teachers.

The “Teacher’s Lounge” will serve as mentoring site for teachers if they need additional skills, competencies and knowledge they need to develop.

With this development, Ms. Eda requests stakeholders to donate additional books and reading materials for teachers.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops.
