Batac to implement P3 fare hike

Batac City—The city government here will soon implement the new PHP14 fare rate in the city.

The fare rate increased from PHP11 to PHP14.

Batac councilor Bismark Quidang, who chairs the Batac council’s committee on transportation, made the announcement.

In his report during a Sangguniang Panlungsod session, he said he was “surprised why this ordinance was not yet implemented wherein this was approved by the previous Sanggunian last December 2018 and reviewed by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan March this year”.

The approved regular fare of PHP14 is for the first 1.5 kilometers and an additional PHP1 for every succeeding kilometer or any fraction thereof.

Students, senior citizens and person with disabilities (PWDs) fare is P11.20, or a 20 percent discount provided identification cards is presented.

Batac Vice mayor and council presiding officer Atty. Windell D. Chua said this fare increase can only be implemented if a fare guide or matrix is displayed inside the sidecar, as stated by the city ordinance.

A new fare guide will also be posted in the different tricycle terminals in this city.

Batac Mayor Albert D. Chua, for his part, said the fare increase ordinance has been approved and “it is but proper to implement it”.

However, the mayor is asking the council the reason for the delay of the implementation.

In a random interview, some of the tricycle drivers thanked the city government for the latest update because they have been waiting for so long.

Nabayagen nga ur-urayen mi daytoy pannaka-implement na ta awan met pinagsardeng a panag ngato iti presyo iti gasolina ket nabayag gayamen nga inaprobaran iti Sangguniang Panlalawigan ket no apay saan da pay nga iyimplimentar,” tricycle drivers said.

On the other hand, some of the riding public still questioned the PHP3 increase, “[T]a dakkel unay ngamin uray nakaas-asideg iti papanan mi ket PHP14 latta pagplete nagrigat la ngarud pinag-biagen daytoy metla traysikelan iti mapag-pagustwanen ket dakami ngarud nga aglug-luganen ket ngumina met amin a magatang saan laeng a gasolina,” they stressed.
