LC holds 1st “Alisto I Do’ mass wedding, event expo

Laoag CIty—The city government here, under the leadership of Mayor James Bryan “Alisto” Alcid conducted its first “Alisto ‘I Do’ Wedding and Event Expo” held at the Laoag City Multipurpose Court from September 17-19, 2025.

On day 1, Alcid led the opening and ceremonial ribbon cutting of the Wedding and Event Expo where displays of events coordinators’ and suppliers’ booths featuring wedding gowns, cakes, giveaways, and other related wedding needs were established.

Other food products from other merchandizers were likewise displayed t5o5 the public.

On day 2, dubbed as “The Power of Creative Expressions”, invited special guests presented their creations and new ideas for weddings and other events.

Relative to this, the city government expressed its support for these kinds of endeavors, highlighting their works and contributions that inspire everyone, especially aspiring artists.

The city of Laoag celebrates all creators who make people’s lives “richer, more meaningful, and more beautiful”. The city government likewise aims to provide them with the support, recognition, and freedom to pursue their artistic visions to enrich a collective human experience.

On day 3, was the highlight of the event wherein Alcid solemnized the marriage of 30 couples who availed of the mass wedding from the city government.

Alcid expressed his thanks to all the organizers who made the expo successful saying, “that without them, this would not be possible”.

The neophyte mayor likewise expressed his best wishes to all the 30 newly wed couples wishing them a “happy marriage and more blessings as they build their own families”.

The Ilocos Times learned that the city government, through the mayor, also distributed cash, wedding rings, start-up kits, free dinner to the family and sponsors and shouldered free make up for the brides.

In a random interview with the new couples, they likewise expressed their “deepest thanks” to the city government of Laoag headed by Alcid for this very rare opportunity providing them with free wedding treats, especially those who had been partners that have been living together for so many years without getting married.

The Ilocos Times learned that the oldest groom for the masse wedding is 60 years old while the oldest bride is 56 years old.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
