Ex-LC SK prexy is now NYC commissioner for Luzon

Laoag City—“As I transition from my role as the SK Federation President of Laoag City to take on a new responsibility as the Commissioner for Luzon of the National Youth Commission, my heart is filled with immense gratitude. This is not a departure from service, but a continuation of the work we have started—on a much broader platform’’.

Outgoing Laoag City Sangguniang Kabataan Federated President and ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Michael Christophe R. Agustin announced following his appointment as National Youth Commission (NYC) Assistant Commissioner for Luzon.

Agustin thanked every Laoagueño for their “trust, support, and shared belief in what the youth can achieve”.

He also stressed his deepest gratitude to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for believing and granting him this incredible opportunity to serve the country’s youth on a grander scale. Profound appreciation also to everyone who became his rock, source of strength and inspiration.

‘’This journey has not been perfect, but it has always been sincere. My commitment to the youth remains steadfast’’, he added.

In his statement, he views the opportunity to serve the SK Federation President of Laoag has been one of the most defining responsibilities in his life.

Throughout his term, his administration brought a vision, “Agtutubo a Laoagueño, Panawen Tayo Itañ’’ to life through concrete action that advanced meaningful programs, strengthened youths’ participation, and created spaces where the youth can be heard, rise and lead.

More importantly, Agustin said the federation laid the foundation for a participatory, organized and empowered youth sector in Laoag—one that others can continue to build on in the years ahead.

Now, he shared an important decision that he will be transitioning from his role as the youth representative in the city council as he took a new responsibility as commissioner for Luzon of the NYC.

He said that this step is not a departure from service but a continuation of the work he has started with the responsibility of representing not only Laoag but the Filipino youth on a broader platform.

He said that he left his SK presidency with a deep sense of appreciation for the experiences that shaped him, the challenges that strengthened him and the trust that allowed him to serve saying that this journey has not been perfect but it has always been sincere.

“Thank you for the trust, your support and your shared belief in what the youth can achieve. Whatever we have accomplished, we accomplished together. While this chapter comes to a close, my commitment to the youth remains steadfast. I will continue to advocate for your voice, open opportunities and work toward policies that uplift and empower our generation’’, Agustin ended.

Agustin will be replaced by SK Federated Vice President Rionnel Jan Respicio as the new SK Federated President of Laoag City and ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. (Dominic B. dela Cruz)

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
