Ilocos Norte PSO achieves 1,805 national ID registrations in May 2026

Laoag City—Demonstrating its continued dedication to providing equitable and convenient identification services, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Ilocos Norte Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) intensified its national ID (NID) registration operations, recording a total of 1,805 registrants across the province in May 2026.

This accomplishment was achieved through the enhanced implementation of field registration activities, particularly through mobile registration efforts conducted in collaboration with various local government units (LGUs), especially in the cities of Laoag and Batac. These outreach initiatives enabled the PSO to bring NID services closer to residents, making registration more accessible to individuals who encounter difficulties traveling to Fixed Registration Centers (FRCs) because of geographical, physical, or economic barriers.

As part of the province’s operational strategy, considerable manpower resources were allocated to LGU-led mobile registration activities, co-location initiatives with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for Social Pension beneficiaries, and participation in DSWD Project LAWA and BINHI programs throughout Ilocos Norte.

Mobile registration operations reached 35 barangays in Laoag City, 15 barangays in Batac City, and 2 barangays in the Municipality of Pagudpud. Additionally, the registration team joined DSWD-led activities, including Social Pension payouts and Project LAWA and BINHI Cash-for-Training engagements in the municipalities of Nueva Era and Pinili.

To broaden the reach of registration services, the NID team also participated in several service caravans organized by local government partners across the province. These included the PSA–Local Civil Registry Office (LCRO) Caravan and the Alisto Serbisyo Caravan of the Laoag City Government. The team likewise carried out house-to-house registration for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) who were unable to access registration services at FRCs or barangay-based mobile registration sites. At the same time, the FRC located at Dap-Ayan Center, Laoag City continued its regular operations from Monday to Friday, accommodating walk-in applicants.

Alongside registration activities, the PSO sustained its information and advocacy campaign through the distribution of printed promotional materials during outreach events and active involvement in inter-agency programs. These efforts helped reinforce public awareness and encourage wider participation in the National ID system.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
