Batac
City—Following the example of San Nicolas
town, a barangay here will soon become a pottery-making center.
This will soon be realized
following the passage of two resolutions in the Sangguniang Panlungsod here.
The resolutions, sponsored by Batac councilor Eugenia Violeta D. Nalupta,
request two regional offices in assisting in the ceramic pottery making and
crafting technology. The two offices are the Departments of Labor and
Employment, and Science and Technology, with Brgy. Payao here as the
beneficiary.
According to Ms. Nalupta, the
ceramic pottery-making project will serve as the barangay’s “One Barangay, One
Product” (OBOP) project. She stressed that this is possible as the soil at
Brgy. Payao is suitable to be made as pots.
Technicians from the Mariano
Marcos State University (MMSU) tested the soil’s suitability.
Ms. Nalupta disclosed that
MMSU also tested other soils in the different barangays here; and only Payao’s
soil was declared suitable.
She added that the city
government here supports barangays to find their OBOP projects.
She further stated that the
pottery-making project in the said barangay would help residents there to gain
additional income.
A series of training for
pottery-making will soon be available provided the agencies accede to the request.
