Laoag City—The Ilocos Norte government continues to encourage Ilocanos to have their properties secured by obtaining land titles.

Launched in 2012, the “Titulo a Natalged” or secured land titles program of the provincial government has helped thousands of Ilocanos processed their application for land titles at the Provincial Assessor’s Office (PAO).

Records from the assessor’s office show that a total of 12,351 titles of agricultural and residential lots were already awarded to individual land claimants since Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos issued an executive order in August 2011 urging concerned officials to speed up the processing of free patents and resolve land conflicts in the province.

According to provincial assessor Erme Labayog, there are thousands more being processed for the land titling activity covering the 21 municipalities and two cities of Ilocos Norte.

Recognizing the importance of lands to the hardworking Ilocanos, the governor has urged land claimants to take advantage of the provincial government’s program and needless to worry in the future.

Datayo ngamin, satay lang agpatitulo no masapul nga umutang. Dakayo no dikay agpatitulo, baka tay dagayo mapukaw, ngamin, uray rabii umakar ta muhonyo [We should secure our land titles not only when we need to loan.  Now, it’s up to you. You might lose your property as boundary stone moves at night],” she quipped.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
