In line with the commitment to generate more jobs for the Ilocanos, the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) in partnership with business process outsourcing (BPO) companies is taking measures to provide employment opportunities for Ilocano nurses.
Held at Takuat Training Center, six trainers, four of them from India, are conducting a free Nursing Training Program for the whole month of September intended for unemployed nurses and nurses who are planning for an alternative career.
This endeavor is a part of the ‘Saguip Nars Program’ launched by the PGIN Task Force Trabaho which aims to strengthen Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos’ campaign to create more jobs for Ilocanos.
“In the Philippines, we are already open to many options, like nurses don’t just work in hospitals.  We have many unemployed nurses. With a healthcare BPO, we are giving them employment opportunities,” said Nicole Rudio of the Ilocos Norte Public Employment and Services Office (PESO).
The healthcare BPO offers accounts which provide career options for Ilocano nurses so that they can practice what they have learned.
Ms. Rudio also clarified that this program is associated with the nurses’ profession in terms of clinical data management and pharmacovigilance since the two aspects are related to clinical research.
Moreover, the program, in partnership with other recruitment firms, targets on establishing a skills set to give clients abroad the idea that Filipino nurses can already perform the function and that they can be beneficial for the work force and eventually, encourage them to invest.
The number of registered nurses working in BPO companies is estimated to be thousands.
“As long as we have clients coming over, we can prove to them that we can provide our nurses with a skills set with their requirements. The more healthcare accounts, the more we can help our nurses find a job,” she said.  She added that two trainings will follow this January.
Meanwhile, Ms. Rudio believes that this one-month training shall serve as a venue to enhance the skills of the Ilocano nurses for them to adapt to different healthcare services BPO can provide.
Ms. Rudio encourages other Ilocano nurses to fill in the remaining slots for the said training.
“This training will truly be an edge for our nurses since they will be absorbed after that,” she concluded.
For interested applicants, they may visit PESO at the Provincial Capitol for the remaining 18 available slots.
