Batac City—Councilor Winet Quidang is hopeful that five more computer units for the city library would soon be coming from Batac natives’ group abroad.

In a regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the council members unanimously approved five resolutions requesting a computer unit each from five organizations abroad.

Originally, the sponsor prepared eight resolutions but three were set aside since the city government has other requests from the said groups.

The five organizations are the Annak Ti Batac International-Hawaii, Annak Ti Batac Singapore, Annak Ti Batac Hawaii, Annak Ti Batac Hong Kong and Annak Ti Batac Association of Singapore.

Ms. Quidang said the requested computer units would be added to the library’s existing 13 units. Of the 13 units in the Batac library, six are for internet use and the remaining seven are strictly for encoding purposes.

The requested additional units, Ms. Quidang explained will benefit more Batac students.

She added that some of the organizations’ officers have already signified their intention to grant the request provided a formal resolution is passed by the council.

In a related development, the council also passed two more resolutions sponsored by Ms. Quidang.

One of the resolutions requests Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Pres. Miriam E. Pascua through the MMSU-Extension Directorate for a livelihood program involving tricycle drivers and their families.

The second resolution s directed to MMSU-College of Business Economics and Accountancy (CBEA) for a study of the economic impacts of the K-12 program to Batac.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
