LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Goodbye mini-skirts, shorts and leggings.

Starting June 2, government workers particularly those fashionable women at the Provincial Capitol are no longer allowed to wear micro or mini-skirts, shorts, leggings and other extra-revealing clothes during office hours.

For men, black slacks and denim pants including T-shirts with collar may do on a “free” day like every Friday starting June.

In a memorandum circular issued by the Human Resources and Management Office (HRMO), Sonia Siazon, HRMO department head, reminded all employees to observe the appropriate dress code while inside their offices.

“As government workers, we should maintain modesty and proper decorum,” Ms. Siazon said.

For several times now, some Capitol employees are observed not wearing their office uniforms and instead they wear trendy clothes such as mini-skirts and sleeveless tops which is a no-no in the corporate world.

Ms. Siazon said wearing a corporate attire commands respect from the public they serve.

She added that all casual and permanent employees shall be wearing the prescribed new office uniform of the Ilocos Norte government every Mondays to Thursdays except on Friday which is regarded as a “free” day.

Job order employees may also consider wearing decent office attire with collar.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
