CURRIMAO, Ilocos Norte—A tobacco
businessman and his helper were gunned down early June 6 along the national
highway in Brgy. Lang-ayan here, a police report said.
The victims identified as
Norberto Arce, 34, married and resident of Vigan City and Felmar Agdeppa of Brgy.
Cabanbanan, Sinait, Ilocos Sur were shot by still unidentified riding-in-tandem
malefactors after they delivered tobacco leaves at a trading center at Brgy. Billoca
in Batac City.
Witnesses said Arce died on
the spot while Agdeppa was still able to call a relative from Ilocos Sur saying
they were shot. The latter was rushed to the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital
and Medical Center in Batac City but later succumbed due to gunshot wounds.
P/Sr. Supt. Antonio Mendoza
Jr., acting provincial director of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office
said the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered at least eight empty
shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Based on initial
investigation, P/Sr. Insp. Ryan Retotar, Currimao chief of police said robbery
or hold-up is being eyed as possible motive of the shooting incident as they
continue their investigation.
As of press time, cash amounting
to about P400,000 from the sale of tobacco is missing.
Retotar appealed to the
public to report to the police suspicious looking individuals in their
communities which may help in the resolution of the case.
