CITEM conducts free export coaching seminar in Laoag

LAOAG CITY—To boost the quality of locally manufactured products with potential for export, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) visited Region 1 on June 16-20 to hold a capability-building activity for small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs).

As part of the Manila FAME Roadshow, Leah Ocampo, officer-in-charge-Department Manager of the Project Management Department of CITEM said the free export coaching seminar was about costing and pricing.

CITEM is the export marketing arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) committed to develop and nurture globally competitive SMEs, exporters, designers and manufacturers by implementing integrated approach to export marketing in partnership with other government and private entities.

For over 30 years, CITEM has established the country’s image as the premiere destination for quality export products and services. It continues to set the highest standards of creativity, excellence and innovation to compete in the global market.

As a prime mover in the export marketing industry, CITEM spearheads the Philippines participation in overseas trade fairs and organizes high profile promotional activities in key markets abroad.

Aside from export coaching program, the department also provides merchandise specialist program, design for exports initiatives and brand building.


Through the SMEs participation in these government-initiated activities, Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos hopes to strengthen and improve the quality of Ilocano products and make Ilocos Norte known for its world-class wooden furniture, accessories and earthen wares among others.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town.
