BATAC CITY—Barely a month
after the start of rainy season, a 12-year-old boy diagnosed with dengue fever
died at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in this city.
The hospital confirmed the death on July 9.
The patient was identified as
Renz Agcaoili, a grade 7 pupil of Pallas Valley Integrated School and resident
of Barangay Bulbulala, Vintar here in Ilocos Norte. As a result, the victim
became the latest dengue casualty since the start of rainy season.
“He was admitted to the
hospital on July 5 at 9:30 am and died on the same day at 9:45 pm,” said
Alma Invencion, MMMH&MC information officer.
According to Ms. Invencion, the
boy was earlier brought to the municipality’s district hospital but was later
rushed to the Intensive Care Unit of the Batac hospital. The patient however
died, 12 hours after admission, due to serious complications.
In view of this, the Vintar municipal
health team visited Agcaoili’s wake on July 9 to personally conduct
inspection in the area.
Last month, the Provincial
Health Office has urged local communities to take precautionary measures to
prevent the spread of dengue by getting rid of stagnant water as breeding sites
of aedis aegypti, a daylight-biting
female mosquito that spreads dengue virus.
Various schools in the entire
the province likewise initiated general cleaning and fogging operations while a
team from the PHO has been conducting massive information and education drive
among locals.
