Laoag now 100 percent drug-cleared

LAOAG CITY—Laoag City has been declared “100 percent drug-cleared” after the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) validated and deliberated on the status of 18 additional barangays on September 9, 2026.

Liga ng mga Barangay President and ex-officio Sangguniang Panlungsod member Roque Benjamin Ablan said the latest declaration brought all 80 barangays of Laoag to “drug-cleared” status.

The validation and deliberation were conducted at the Philip Corpus Velasco Socio-Civic and Cultural Center in Barangay 1, Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, upon the motion of PDEA Regional Office 1 Director and ROCBDC Chairperson Julius M. Paderes Jr., PhD, and with the concurrence of committee members.

Ablan said the accomplishment was the result of the combined efforts of the city government, barangay officials, community volunteers and various national agencies, including the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National Police, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Health and local anti-drug councils.

He particularly cited the work of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) and Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Councils (BADACs) in conducting information and advocacy campaigns on the harmful effects of illegal drugs and encouraging community members to reject the use and distribution of prohibited substances.

The newly declared “drug-cleared” barangays had previously recorded the presence of drug personalities but successfully underwent the required drug-clearing process through the cooperation of local officials, law enforcement agencies, health authorities and community stakeholders.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution commending the 18 newly declared drug-cleared barangays and their officials and residents for their efforts.

Ablan said the Liga ng mga Barangay recognized the work of the 80 barangay governments, including their officials, volunteers and community partners, in helping create safer and healthier communities.

Laoag Mayor James Bryan Q. Alcid likewise congratulated all 80 barangays, particularly their officials and constituents, for the achievement.
