Animation workshop kicks off 3rd Tan-ok Festival

An all new Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals comes back with an activity to hone Ilocano talents in the field of animation through the Looking for Johnny Moon Animation Workshop

The animation program, held November 13 to 15, 2013 at the La Tabacalera Function Hall in Laoag City, aimed to provide young Ilocanos the opportunity to unleash their creativity in animation and the best avenue to explore local culture and heritage for artistic inspiration for a short film representing vast north in animated local tales.

The three-day workshop was by high calibre animators from the Creative Media and Film Society of the Philippines (CreaM), the media outfit which created the award-winning mixed media film Pintakasi that combined elements of 2D animation and a special kind of hybrid animation with live action in 2011.

Mark Anthony Ballesteros, the animation director of CREAM, also a professional storyboard artist of ARKEO Films/ FILMEX Studio/ ABRAKADABRA Productions for TV commercials from 2008 to present, is also a freelance animator of Toon City Animation Studio, and is best known for TV series “Land Before Time”.

Eugene Floyd Cruz, also an awarded animator from CREAM was also a speaker in the workshop. His major award is the 2011 Golden Screen Award for Best Visual/Special Effects for the movie Pintakasi. He was also an animator for Toon City Philippines, Land Before Time (TV Series), and Tom and Jerry tales (TV series).

Michael Magpantay, the current Creative Director of CREAM who started his career as animator and layout artist on various international animated series also spoke.  He was a project coordinator for Universal Records Philippines, graphic artist for Manila Bulletin and illustrator for Fudge Magazine which features entertainment and Filipino Pop Culture.

The workshop also featured Armando Paz, a freelance layout artist at Toon City and DQ Animation Studio and currently working at CREAM studio as well as being a contributing artist.

The goal of this workshop is for the participants to be more dynamic in creating their own animation which promotes the culture of the province.

Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos believes that animation is an effective tool to engage the youths and artists in the preservation and revitalization the Ilocano culture.

The workshop is the first event for this year’s month-long celebration of the Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival of Festivals 2013 which is packed full of activities and events celebrating the greatness of every Ilocano.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
