The Laoag city government
expects to receive P2,265,000 worth of housing materials assistance from the
National Housing Authority (NHA) for typhoon Pepeng victims. The said typhoon
hit Laoag a year ago.
Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas made this
announcement after her office received a communication from the office of Rep.
Rodolfo C. Fariñas (1st district, Ilocos Norte). In the said letter
it stated that the assistance is ready for pick up at NHA’s central office in
Metro Manila.
The City Social Welfare and Development
(CSWD) Office records show that around 453 recipients will be given the housing
materials assistance program.
Ms Fariñas thanked the NHA for the
assistance despite of its lateness. This was requested by the CSWD after the
said typhoon hit the city.
The mayor said that it would be up to the
CSWD whether the assistance will be given in cash instead of materials as the
damaged houses may have been repaired by now.
The Ilocos Times
however learned from the CSWD that the said amount will no longer be for
typhoon “Pepeng” victims but will be for the recent typhoon “Vinta” victims.
According to the said office, the “Pepeng”
victims were already given financial assistance by the city government.
As a result, the damages brought by the
said typhoon were already rehabilitated and reconstructed.
Based on the CSWD consolidated report,
typhoon “Vinta” affected 36 barangays.
Of the 36 barangays, 256 families were
affected with one person injured and a total of 1,189 persons affected.
The report also said that 16 houses were
totally damaged and 240 were partially damaged.
