Batac councilor’s measures ‘killed’ again

By Dominic B. dela Cruz

Batac City—For the third time, measures sponsored by Batac councilor Gwynet Quidang were “killed” anew at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

This time, six similar resolutions directed to Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Albert Chua, Da Vinci Crisostomo, Ramon Gaoat, James Paul Nalupta, Joel Garcia and ABC president Domingo Ambrocio were all disapproved by the city council.

These resolutions are requests for donation of movable sheds for tricycle terminals in Batac.

Quidang explained that several tricycle drivers and operators from the different terminals approached her requesting for movable sheds and since she has no barangay development fund (BDF) yet, she opted to make these resolutions for the said requests.

But during the discussions, some of the city councilors questioned the resolution saying there are more priorities that need to be requested and not these movable sheds most especially that the city government has the plan to identify all tricycle terminals for rehabilitation.

Relative to this, there must be uniform terminals so that it will not become an eyesore on the streets.

However, these sane city councilors also expressed their agreement on the resolution but it’s not yet the best time for its approval and they should focus on other more pressing priorities.

As a result, the measures were disapproved.

Even with this, Quidang said, this will not be her basis for not doing her job as a city councilor in proposing measures which she believes is for the betterment of the public.

It was learned that this is the third batch of her resolutions that were disapproved by the city council.

Earlier her resolutions requesting the Mariano Marcos State University – College of Arts and Sciences for the conduct of free computer literacy training program for the barangay health workers (BHW), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) and the barangay tanods in the city was also disapproved.

Also resolutions requesting Rep. Imelda R. Marcos (2nd district, Ilocos Norte), Senator Antonio F. Trillanes, Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Committee Chairman on Civil Service and Professional Regulation of the House of Representatives Andres D. Salvacion to file a Bill in Congress for the granting of civil service eligibility to qualified barangay tanods was again disapproved.

Reacting to this, Batac Vice Mayor and council presiding officer Ronald Allan M. Nalupta felt sad with what is happening at the city council right now.

Nalupta wishes and hopes that the city councilors would prioritize public service over political differences if there are any.
