Ilocos Norte got fresh
pages in a European tourist guide book which now features a locator to the
province’s finest destinations including hotels, restaurants and transportation
facilities.
The book “Guide to
the Philippines,” written by British writer Kiki Deere, is used by the European
tourists travelling around the world.
Department of
Tourism head for Ilocos Norte Milagros R. Gonzales said the book’s authors fly
to the Philippines yearly to update its data.
“The book of Ms Deere
is widely used by Europeans who are travelling around the world which includes
our ten anchor destinations in the Philippines,” Gonzales said.
The book has
15,000 existing copies in Europe and has more than a million viewers on their
online account.
It also provides
information on the ten anchor destinations in the Philippines namely, Baler in
Aurora, Boracay, Cebu City, Bohol, Palawan, Baguio City, Banaue in Benguet,
Subic in Clark Pampanga, Vigan City and Ilocos Norte.
The book provides
a window to Ilocos Norte’s destinations namely the famous beaches in Pagudpud,
sand dunes in Laoag City, the windmill in Bangui, Kapurpurawan Rock Formation
and Lighthouse in Burgos, the Paoay Church and major waterfalls.
“This is a very
effective marketing strategy for us in Ilocos Norte and the Philippines. The
government did not commission them, they came on their own,” she added.
According to the
DOT, tourist traffic from European countries to Ilocos Norte increases yearly
and peaks during summer season.
“They love the
beaches in Pagudpud and the Ilocano culture too,” Gonzales said.
