Following a series of
budget hearings, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan unanimously approved
on December 11 the more than P900 million provincial budget for 2014.
The approved
budget amounts to a total of P922,882,142 where majority of the amount goes to
health sector reform as the provincial government’s priority
agenda.

Vicenti to M. Lazo, chairperson of the of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan’s
committee on appropriation and finance moved for the approval of the 2014
budget sourced mainly from the Internal Revenue Allotment share of the province
and the Tobacco excise tax or the so-called RA 7171.
The approved
budget includes interest payment of the long-term loan of the province due to
the construction and purchase of furniture and fixtures of the Plaza del Norte
formerly known as the Ilocos Norte Hotel and Convention Center financed by the
Development Bank of the Philippines and the construction and rehabilitation of
the Gov. Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital including the two district
hospitals located in Bangui and Dingras.
Meanwhile, the
more than a thousand employees of the provincial Capitol shall receive P12,ooo
as extra Christmas bonus this year, an amount lower compared to last year’s
P18,000.
