LAOAG CITY—The Bureau of
Internal Revenue here launched its tax awareness campaign on March 8 with a
motorcade from Batac to Currimao to drumbeat attention it’s again the official
tax season of the year.
“Let’s love our country and
pay our taxes right,” this is the battle cry of the BIR this year with a P2
billion collection target for BIR-Ilocos Norte for 2016, or an increase of P200
million increase compared to last year.
After the motorcade a short
program was held at the Pangil Beach Resort in Currimao, followed by a
confidential operation on commercial establishments here.
To facilitate efficient
filing and paying of annual taxes, revenue district officer Ariel Calabia said
the BIR is strengthening its electronic filing system, including downloadable
forms, online registration and on-time and easier filing and paying of taxes.
Mr. Calabia is hopeful that
they will meet the collection target with the full cooperation of local
taxpayers.
He also revealed that there are
about several candidates being monitored for possible filing of tax evasion
charges should they fail to declare more than 30 percent of their income.
