Piddig is cleanest, safest, greenest LGU in Ilocos Norte

Piddig, Ilocos Norte—The municipal government of Piddig bagged the cleanest, safest and greenest local government unit (LGU) award under the class A municipal category during the recently concluded provincial search in 2014.

For the first time, the Piddig government under the administration of Mayor Eduardo Guillen won the overall championship, after he effectively transformed a once laid back municipality into a growing agri-business and eco-tourism sector, being the host of the first Regional Convergence Initiative (RCI) for the largest coffee farm development in the making.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Guillen, Regional Development Council I vice chairperson Nestor G. Rillon, who is also the current regional director of National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) said the municipality of Piddig shall represent Ilocos Norte in the 2015 regional search for the cleanest, safest and greenest municipality in Region 1.

Set on March 18, evaluators are expected to be in Piddig for the actual validation of the LGU-related programs, including a 15-20 minutes power point presentation. 

According to Mr. Guillen, his administration is committed to deliver its mission to become a premier hub of agriculture modernization and eco-tourism development in support of the provincial and national government agenda for peace and development.

Regardless of the award, the Piddig government continues to sustain its cleanliness program covering all government buildings, schools, public parks, public comfort rooms, public market, slaughter house, sewerage systems, sanitary landfill, zero-waste management program, water canals, and other landmarks.


At the same time, the municipality continue to hold regular peace and order council meeting including the implementation of integrated public safety plan, crime statistics and crime prevention programs, road hazards prevention program among others.

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
