Women trade fair kicks off Women’s Month

Laoag City—A weeklong exhibit of women entrepreneurs showcasing various products and crafts kicked off on March 9 at the west wing of the Capitol parking lot to further promote their vibrant contribution to the local economy.

Composed of processed food products such as longganisa, vinegar, rice coffee, tupig, souvenir crafts and accessories, abel cloth and other by products, soap bars, wine including fresh vegetables and plants,  the Gender and Development (GAD) Office of the provincial government has been assisting these women entrepreneurs to reach out to a wider market.

In recognition of the vital role of women and the economy, Nelinda Erice of GAD said the provincial government continue to assist women entrepreneurs through its Lacasa loan program, providing financial assistance to women in need of a capital to start a business.

In cooperation with the Provincial Social Welfare Office led by Lilian Rin, which provides livelihood assistance to women with existing small-time business to augment their family income.

The Self Assistance Program (SEA-P) is meant for women in development who are now successful in running their business. Some of the loan packages they availed include hog-breeding and meat-processing, retail and direct selling, rice and vegetable trading and production of off-season fruits and vegetables. 


The women entrepreneurs’ trade fair was participated in by at least 22 booths from the different municipalities and cities of the province is one of the highlights of the month-long women’s month celebration of Ilocos Norte.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Pagudpud’s tourism transformer passes away

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018. He was 67. “He did not survive an open-heart surgery,” said Ronald Dominguez, spokesperson of the largest resort at Brgy. Balaoi in Pagudpud. Known as the architect behind the transformation of Pagudpud town as a premiere destination of the north, Mr. Nolasco put up Hannah’s Beach Resort in what was originally meant as a family vacation resort.
