She added that the February festival is a prelude to the city’s Golden Anniversary as it celebrates its 50th anniversary as a city.

Ms. Fariñas stressed that the transition from an old town to a new city was “mercurial” where Ilocano traditions and values are still valued and historical landmarks are preserved.

“Laoagueños who are resilient, resourceful, productive, creative and innovative will continue to redefine and re-invent their past and present circumstances,” Ms. Farinas said.

She added that as the city gears for its golden anniversary, all Laoag natives should be one in thanking the Almighty for 50 fruitful years and embrace the challenges of another 50 years that will further move Laoag farther towards prosperity and greatness.
