Ms Valdez
disclosed that different Hawaii-based organizations have invited the couple
after the May elections but they were unable to leave immediately as there were
many things they had to do.
She said she
learned that several San Nicolas natives in Hawaii campaigned for them during
the elections, calling their relatives through telephone to vote for them.
In view of
this, the Valdez couple thanked their fellow San NicoleƱos now living in Hawaii
for their continued support.
Meanwhile, the
lady mayor also divulged that the association’s coronation is a fund-raising
activity of the San Nicolas natives in Hawaii to help their townmates.
She related
that at least 540 San NicoleƱos attended the coronation and a portion of the
proceeds, amounting to US$1,500 was given to the Bin-i Foundation of San
Nicolas.
Of the
US$1,500, the mayor said US$500 will go the Bin-i general fund and the
remaining US$1,000 will be used for three scholars in the next school year.
The San
Nicolanos of Hawaii also raised US$3,000, which was again donated to the Bin-i
Foundation. A certain Mr. and Mrs. Etrata of Ilocos Sur also donated US$500 to
the same foundation.
In total, the
Valdez couple raised US$5,000 for the foundation.
The mayor
thanked all the San Nicolanos of Hawaii for their continued support to their
fellow San Nicolanos here in the Philippines.
The couples also
invited all of them to come home and participate in the forthcoming Damili
Festival 2013 this December.
As a result, two
of the crowned queens promised to come home for another crowning during the
Balikbayan Night and hoped that the other queen could also join.
Due to hectic
schedules, the mayor said that they were not able to go to the other islands
but they also called their friends and relatives to invite them to the coming
fiesta.
The mayor also
hopes that they could also invite personally their friends and the San
Nicolanos in the mainland USA for the fiesta.
Vice Mayor Valdez,
for his part, also thanked all the Ilocanos in Hawaii particularly those San
Nicolanos for the warm welcome they extended to them.
The vice mayor
hopes that they would continue supporting all the programs and projects for the
betterment of San Nicolas.
Mr. Valdez also
revealed that he is set to leave for Hong Kong on October 13 after he was
invited by the San Nicolanos of Hong Kong. He said he would also invite them to
attend the San Nicolas fiesta.
