ELEMENTS of the Laoag police’s City Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Team (CAIDSOT) under the supervision of acting police chief P/Supt. Jeffrey Gorospe arrested a suspected drug pusher on September 9.

The suspect was identified as Jade Bumanglag, 28 years old, single and a resident of Barangay 14, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.

Initial investigation stated that at about 2:20 am of September 9, Bumanglag was arrested with the coordination of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in a drug buy-bust operation at the Gilbert Bridge.

The suspect was arrested while in the act of selling one heat-sealed plastic sachet containing white crystalline suspected to be shabu plus plastic material to a police poseur-buyer.

Also confiscated in his possession were four other plastic sachets containing the same crystalline material and three disposable lighters. The buy-bust money amounting to P1,000 was also recovered from the suspect.

According to Gorospe, Bumanglag was already convicted from charges of theft incidents, drug pushing and robbery, which resulted to his being jailed at the National Penitentiary in Muntinlupa.

Aside from this case, Gorospe said that Bumanglag is also the suspect of a recent robbery at the Laoag Central Elementary School.

As this developed, Gorospe said an inquest case was filed against the suspect at the city prosecutor’s office and was subsequently charged in court for violation of Section 11, Article II of RA 9165 docketed under Criminal Case No. 15652 with recommended bail bond of P200,000.00.

Another estafa case was filed under Article 315 paragraph 2(b) docketed under Criminal Case No. 35757 with no bail required.

Said accused was committed at the city BJMP by virtue of commitment order dated September 10, 2013 issued by Judge Charles Aguilar of RTC Branch 12.

Cops warns LC residents of robbers
Meanwhile, the city’s police has also urged the public to be more vigilant on robbery incidents both residential and business areas.

Laoag police reports show a robbery incident transpired at the residence of Jennifer Frances Gapuzan, 45, widow of Barangay 7-A this city last September 8.

Elements of this station with the SOCO team from the INPPO led by P/Chief Insp. Valeriano Laya immediately responded to the said area and initial investigation disclosed that at 5:00 am  their stay-in maid noticed that their back door was opened and their window grill was forcibly destroyed which served as the robbers’ point of entry.

The suspects carted away one laptop; three cellphones; one wristwatch; a wallet containing PRC license, ATM cards and credit card owned by Miguel Austin Gapuzan.

Also stolen was one cellphone, one wrist watch, 1one necklace, a pair of earrings and P3,000 cash owned by Nenita Panoncillo.

Recovered at the crime scene were one steel pipe and one flashlight allegedly left by the suspects.

Relative to this, Gorospe said that they have already coordinated with the different pawnshop owners here about this incident and gave them the list of the stolen items just in case someone will go there to pawn them, they should immediately contact the city police for information.

Gorospe also instructed security guards of business establishments in the city to be more vigilant because robbers might use the canals as their underground entrance again.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
