Solsona, Ilocos Norte—A town councilor lawyer of Solsona, Ilocos Norte survived an ambush attempt at about 1:20 pm on September 2.
In a telephone interview, senior Sanggunian Bayan member Marcelino Quitoras, 38, said he was heading to his parked vehicle after attending a regular session at the municipal session hall when he saw an unidentified person aiming his gun at him.
But before the gunman could pull the trigger, Quitoras said he immediately ran away and called for help. The gunman also moved back to his lookout and drove away in their get-away motorcycle heading south.
Responding police officers, whose station is located just a few meters away from the municipal hall, however failed to identify the suspects.
Police investigators have yet to identify the motive of the attempted ambush.
But according to Quitoras, he believes that the incident may have been politically motivated though he did not elaborate why.
Other than that, he said he is not holding any sensitive cases which could have triggered the assassination attempt if ever.
