Paoay,
Ilocos Norte—The local chief executive of
this town is calling on all residents covering 31 barangays here to intensify their
simultaneous clean-up drive to prevent the spread of dengue virus.
Based on the latest dengue
monitoring record of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center
(MMMH&MC) in Batac City as of the first week of August, Alma
Invencion, the hospital’s information officer said at least 11 suspected cases
of dengue were treated at the hospital. Of the 11, seven were children while four
were adults.
Of the suspected dengue
patients, four of them came from Paratong, Paoay while the remaining others
came from Batac City and the towns of Solsona, Sinait and Sarrat.
In view of this, Paoay mayor
Dolores Clemente said all village officials in Paoay are encouraged to
participate in the simultaneous cleaning activity especially at this time when Paoay
is turning into a huge lake due to intense rain aggravated by tons of debris
swept along the waterway connecting barangays here.
Paoay town suffers from
flooding year in and year out as it serves as a catch basin of floodwaters
coming from neighboring Batac City.
