Laoag City
Mayor Chevylle V. Fariñas expressed her gratitude to all the people who made
the celebration of the 2014 Pamulinawen Festival a success.
This year’s fiesta is the first in the
administration of the neophyte mayor.
The month-long celebration kicked off with
the civic-military parade on Feb. 1. That same night, the Dios ti Agngina
concert was also staged concluded by a fireworks display at the Aurora Park.
The main celebration occurred on Feb. 10,
the commemoration of the feast day of St. William the Hermit. On that day, the
street pageantry was held on the day along with a holy mass and the Komedya
Ilocana. On the evening, the Miss Laoag City Pamulinawen International Quest
was staged. The city’s premiere beauty pageant saw a La Union lass, Kimberly
Mae Penchon winning the Miss Laoag City crown.
Another beauty contest, the Miss ABC 2014
was staged on February 4 with Precious Camille Balicad winning the title.
Ms Fariñas also thanked the balikbayan
queens for taking the time to come home and be crowned by their respective
organizations in the city.
They were Kalayaan Philippines Hawaii
International Queens Miss Teen Philippines Hawaii Rachel Dela Cruz, Mrs. Aloha
Philippines Amelia Montero Dela Cruz and Mrs. Philippines Hawaii International
Amelita Dela Cruz Ramiscal; Laoag City Circle of Hawaii Queens Gerlie Mae Barit
and Virgie Galiza; and the Sirmata Dialysis Fund Corporation Queens Gracephine
Gaoiran, Zeny Aganon, Enrica Asio, Eleanor Guillermo and Lumen Calibuyot.
The mayor also thanked all the guests, who despite
of their hectic schedules attended the celebration. They ate Sen. Ferdinand R. Marcos
Jr., Ilocos Norte Governor Ma. Imelda R. Marcos, Dept. of Public Works and
Highways Sec. Rogelio Singson, Teresita Farinas, ABC President Mary Michelle
Louise V. Fariñas, US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg and Sen. Cynthia
Villar.
The celebration was also graced by various
celebrities led by GMA Kapuso stars Mark Anthony Fernandez, Mark Herras, Yasmin
Kurdi and Izzy Canillo.
The city’s senior citizens also took
centerstage through the search for the “Gandang Lola, Gwapong Lolo 2014.” Ms
RIC 2014 and Mrs. Red Cross 2014 were also crowned.
The city’s cleanest and greenest barangays,
as well as the best performing peace and order council and most child-friendly
barangays were also acknowledged.
The city’s top 10 Laoagueños for 2014 were
also named. They are: Police Chief Supt. Richard Albano, Julie Daquioag, Dr. Lori
Marseli de Castro, Dr. Francis Miguel Domingo, Noralyn Espejo, Judge Virgilio
Macaraig, Severino Pablo, Prof. Eric Paligat, Araceli Pastor and Atty. Lutgarda
Baquiran-Peralta.
A mini-Tan-ok festival dubbed “Tan-ok ni
Agututubo” was also held on Feb. 15 with Laoag City winning the top prize.
Batac City and San Nicolas finished second and third, respectively.
Special nights for all schools in the city
were also held separately.
