More and more women with small enterprises in this province are taking
advantage of the LACASA livelihood program (LLP) of the office of Gender and
Development (GED) under the Ilocos Norte government.
Donna
Leaño, a small time boutique owner of Barangay Pagdilao in Pinili, Ilocos Norte
said she is grateful for the opportunity to avail of the said loan assistance
program meant to help small-time women entrepreneurs. Leaño is one of the
latest beneficiaries of the LLP who received at least P10,000 loan from the provincial
government with minimal interest.
Under
the LACASA livelihood program, Nelida Erice, head of the Gender and Development
Office said all women entrepreneurs wanting to avail said livelihood program
may apply for loan assistance ranging from P5,000-10,000 with no collateral or
at least P30,000 and above with collateral.
Earlier
another beneficiary identified as Gloria Pacio of Barangay Naguilian in Nueva
Era, Ilocos Norte, who owns a school supplies business received a check worth
P10,000 during the recent Capitol Express held in the said municipality.
According
to Erice, at least 20 beneficiaries from the different municipalities of the
province are expected to receive their loan assistance package following an
extensive back ground information and evaluation of their application.
She
said only applicants who successfully meet the requirements for application are
granted with the loan assistance program.
The
LACASA livelihood program was initiated under the administration of Ilocos
Norte Governor Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos in 2012 to promote gender equality
and empower women in development.
