Laoag police seizes 500 grams of suspected shabu

Laoag City—A composite team of law enforcers conducted a buy-bust operation that resulted in the confiscation of 500 grams of suspected shabu.

The Laoag police headed by P/Supt. Jeffrey T. Gorospe along with elements of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Tea, (PAIDSOT) under the supervision of P/Sr. Supt. Sterling Blanco and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted the operation on Jan. 25, 2015 at 3 am.

Mr. Gorospe said they arrested four suspects: Darren dela Cruz, 22 years old and a resident of Bangui, Ilocos Norte; Elmer dela Cruz, 38, married from Mabutal, Ballesteros, Cagayan; Jeniephine dela Cruz, 33, married and Maricris Calara, 22, single and both from Marilao, Bulacan.

Darren dela Cruz was apprehended in the act of selling shabu worth P5,000 to a police-buyer at a rented house owned by a Franklin Domingo at Brgy. 13, Gen. Segundo Ave. here.

Aside from this, the team also confiscated 10 big heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and with an estimated weight of 500 grams. The sachets were on a table in front of the four suspects.

Other items confiscated are 1 colt cal. 38 revolver loaded with 5 pieces of live ammunition, P2,870 cash in different dominations, and two  motorcycles: 1 XRM, color black with plate number 6417 OW and 1 FURY, color silver with plate number 3249 ZA.

All seized evidences were inventoried and marked with the presence of barangay officials, some media personalities and the suspects.

The suspects were brought to the police station after being medically examined at the Laoag City Gen. Hospital for investigation. The confiscated items to the PAIDSOTG office for documentation.

The seized alleged shabu and firearms were submitted to dangerous drug examination and ballistic test, respectively at the Ilocos Norte Crime Laboratory.

Mr. Gorospe said an inquest was immediately conducted and cases for violations of RAs 9165 and 10591 have been filed at the City Prosecutor’s Office

The Laoag police chief added that information that may be gathered from the suspects may become their basis to identify other drug personalities in the city and the province.


The police also disclosed that from the information given by the suspects, the suspected shabu was to be sold in Laoag, San Nicolas and Batac.s

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
