Laoag
City—The Departments of Public Works and
Highways, and Tourism have identified at least six road projects in Ilocos
Norte for 2015.
Ma. Milagros R. Gonzales,
Laoag sub-office senior tourism operations officer made this announcement
saying the road projects would lead to tourist spots in the province.
Among the projects are the
3-kilometer concreting of the Tangaoan-Pallas road leading to the Paraiso
Ecotourism Project and Reforestation Project in Piddig; the concreting of the
Laoag-La Paz Sand Dunes road measuring 0.9 kilometer; the construction and improvement
of the gravel road with bridge leading to the Bantoc-Suyo-Baruyen Windmill in
Bangui measuring 2.7 kilometers; the construction and improvement of earth and trail
road leading to the Napidad view deck and water falls of Takulao Mataltala and
Pao in Dumalneg measuring 3.5 kilometers; the construction and improvement of the
Lanao-San Isidro road leading to Bolo River and Darna Falls Road in Dumalneg measuring
1.62 kilometers; and the upgrading and improvement of road along poblacion junction
to Abot Falls to Lading view deck to Tubeg view deck to campsite to “Siudad sa
Gubat” to Mt. Sicapoo in Nueva Era measuring 34 kilometers.
In 2013, the construction, widening
and upgrading of the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation road and the
Maoini-Baduang-Saud road in Burgos and Pagudpud respectively were fully
implemented.
The Pancian-Pagudpud-Adams
road leading to different waterfalls in Adams measuring 12.7 kilometers and
with a funding of P254 million was completed in 2014.
Ms. Gonzales said the funding
came from both national agencies serving as their road convergence projects.
Ms. Gonzales also announced
that a bottom-up budgeting between the DOT and the DILG projects are also in
progress.
These projects are the
Visitors Information Center in Burgos with a P3 million funding; P3 million
Improvement of Tribal Haal Cum Museum in Dumalneg; P1 million Visitors
Information Center in Nueva Era; P800,000 Improvement of Visitors Information
Center in San Nicolas and the P2 million Tourism Development One Stop
Pasalubong/Souvenir Center in Sarrat which are all ready for implementation.
Meanwhile, Ms. Gonzales said
the DOT conducted a four-day tourist reception and guiding technique seminar
and training to local residents in Adams on May 12-15.
Staff from the DOT-Laoag also
went in Palawan for an online accreditation seminar in case problems may arise from
their online accreditation.
A surfing clinic in Paoay
from the La Union surfers was also on May 30-31.
On May 20, the maiden voyage
of MV Caledonian Sky with 150 passengers and 70 crew from Britain are expected
to arrive in Ilocos Norte at the Currimao Port to visit Laoag and Vigan Cities.
Ms. Gonzales said this is one
of the DOTs main thrust, the promotion of cruise tourism in the Philippines.
With the tourist attractions in
Ilocos Norte, Ms. Gonzales said the province is a multi-faceted tourism
destination rich in nature, adventure, historical, cultural, pilgrimage and now
going to a cruise tourism area.
During peak season, Ms. Gonzales
admitted though that hotels and accommodation facilities in the province becomes
a problem.
