Department of Tourism Regional Director
Martin Valera formally declared Paoay, Ilocos Norte as one of the latest
addition to the list of surfing sites in Region 1.
Mr. Valera said, the Suba Beach in Paoay passed the inspection and
validation for prospective surfing sites. The inspection and validation group
was composed of professional surfers and representatives from the municipality
and DOT.
He added that Paoay has the potential to become one of the centers of
sports tourism in the region.
Paoay Vice Mayor Jessie Galano believes that this new development will
again attract more tourists to visit Paoay. He disclosed that besides surfing,
they will also launch some diving sites in their town.
The declaration of Paoay as a surfing site was held during a free surfing
clinic at Suba Beach. It was attended by surfers from the different parts of
the country.
Professional surfer Lemon “Surfer” Dines believes that Paoay has the
complete package that most surfers are looking for.
Mr. Dines said, besides the inviting waves, the town also offers treats
like the sand dunes and 4X4 experience.
