Laoag
City—The Laoag City police has called on
parents to be stricter on their children particularly when they go out at night
and for children to be honest to their parents as well.
Laoag police chief P/Supt.
Jeffrey T Gorospe made this remarks following an on-going investigation of
a woman found dead at the Laoag sand dunes on early Monday.
Police said they are now
following a lead of the crime while still tracing the identity of the last
person who was with the victim.
Young lady found dead in Laoag, identified
The Laoag City police has identified the victim found dead
at Brgy. Talingaan as Dona Mae Doña, 17 years old, single and a resident of
Brgy. Casili this city.
The victim was discovered at
6:30 am on May 25 by Benny Ruiz, chief barangay tanod of Brgy. Talingaan behind
a cottage along Ventura Road.
The police along with the
Scene of the Crime Operatives of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police Office and
Dr. Joseph Abaya of the City Health Office responded to the scene.
At that time, the team was
unable to identify the victim and.
On May 26, family members of
the victim were able to identify her at a funeral parlor at Brgy. 2, Laoag
City.
Initial police investigation reports
stated that on the night of May 24, the victim asked permission from her mother
to go out for a while; Ms. Doña however had not returned home until her remains
was discovered on May 25.
A post mortem examination reports
that the victim suffered from around 40 stab wounds in the different parts of
her body that caused her death.
Fetched by a trike
According to the mother of the victim, Angelita Daquioag Doña, her
daughter did not usually go out of their house especially since she has stopped
going to school to assist her. The mother has a medical condition.
Mrs. Doña said a person
aboard a motorcycle fetched her daughter from their house on
Sunday night, May 24. She said she could not identify the person driving
the motorcycle or tell if it was a man or a woman because it was dark.
“They talked outside the
house. She told me she will go out and return immediately,” said Mrs. Doña.
When Donna Mae failed to
return later that night, Mrs. Doña said she got worried especially when her
daughter did not reply to her text messages. She also tried calling her mobile
phone but it was apparently turned off.
Doña said family members
started looking for her the following morning and were informed by one of Donna
Mae’s friends that a woman was found dead near the sand dunes.
She said they went to the
funeral parlor where the body was taken and were able to identify it as Donna
Mae’s on Tuesday morning.
Phone call
Donna Mae’s boyfriend, Ace Mark Balmes, 18, a resident of
Dingras, Ilocos Norte, said he was able to talk to her by telephone on
Sunday, May 24.
Mr. Balmes said they seldom
see each other because he had summer classes. He said he did not know where
Donna Mae went on the night she went missing.
Mrs. Doña said Donna Mae was
second of three children and the only girl in the brood. Donna Mae was an
incoming freshman student at the Northwestern University here and would have
taken a hotel and restaurant management course.
Alarming
The police meanwhile is still conducting the investigation
as all of the victim’s friends and current boyfriend were invited to shed light
on the case.
Laoag police chief P/Supt.
Jeffrey T. Gorospe said he considers the case to be alarming as this is not
first time the police has found a dumped dead body.
Mr. Gorospe believes that the
victim was not killed at Brgy. Talingaan as there is no trace of blood in the
area she was found.
He then appealed to the
public to help them solve the case by giving information on the incident. He
stressed that even if the police do their best, they would still need the
assistance of the public to aid their investigation.
CVF orders thorough probe
Reacting to this, Laoag Mayor Chevylle V. Farinas instructed the
Laoag police to conduct a thorough investigation on the case.
Ms. Fariñas also ordered the
people in charge of the CCTV system to put up cameras in the area where the
victim was discovered. She said the area is part of the sand dunes tourist site
and as such also needs to be secured.
The mayor personally attended
the wake of the victim to sympathize with the family.
Police teaches self-defense
Meanwhile, the Laoag police continues to teach basic self-defense
to barangay residents in the city, particularly among women to protect
themselves in cases of emergency.
Police records show there is
a proliferation of prohibited drugs in the city and in neighboring towns hence
the conduct of massive raids in suspected drug dens.
