The
Department of Agrarian Reform is set to
release another funding for the construction of farm-to-market roads in Laoag
City and two more municipalities here this year, agrarian reform officer Rommel
Aquino said.
The funding, totaling more
than P17.8 million, have been allotted for Laoag City, and the municipalities
of Badoc and Dingras—both in the second district of Ilocos Norte.
As of press time, Aquino said
the budget is ready as per advice of the Department of Budget and Management.
“We are just waiting for the official
signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) to be entered into by the
concerned mayors and representatives from the Department of Interior and Local
Government and the regional director of DAR,” Aquino said.
Of the total P17,812,750
budget for farm-to-market roads to be implemented in Ilocos Norte this year, P7,572,750
will be used for the improvement of farm-to-market roads at Brgys. Turod, Gabut
Santa Cruz Norte and Sur in Badoc town.
In Dingras, about P6 million
has also been allotted for the concreting of farm-to-market roads covering the
remote barangays of Barong, San Marcelino and Elizabeth, which are often hit by
typhoons and other natural calamities.
Laoag City’s rural Barangays
Lataag, Balacad and Lagui-Sail have also been given an allotment for the
construction of farm-to-market roads worth P4, 240,000.
“The budgeting is done and we
are ready to implement this year,” Aquino said citing Laoag City and the two
municipalities in Ilocos Norte may have been the first to apply for the said
program this year, meant to uplift the living conditions of farmers here.
