WITH THE series of fire
incidents around Laoag City, the local Bureau of Fire Protection here has been
put on a 24-hour alert.
Acting fire marshal F/Sr.
Insp. Bonifacio Sacatrapos made the announcement after two fire incidents broke
out at Brgys. Rioeng and Suyo on April 29 and May 2, respectively. The
dap-ayan, or wooden sheds, of the two rural barangays caught fire.
On May 3, wooden sheds at
Brgy. La Paz’s sand dunes and two wooden sheds at Brgys. 2 and Pila were also
reported to have caught fire.
Sacatrapos said they have yet
to complete the investigation on the incidents but he theorized that the fires
might be due to cigarette butts being thrown haphazardly and with the dried
grass and the hot weather might have caused the fire. Asked on where he based
his theory, he said it is based on their experience.
Records show that most of the
wooden shed caught fire at about 10 pm. No time frame, however was established
for La Paz wooden sheds fire incident.
In an apparent doubts on his own
theory, Sacatrapos appealed to the public to help in the probe by providing
information on the incidents.
Meanwhile, assistant city
engineer Fred Agpaoa said they would put up temporary structures to replace the
burnt sheds at the La Paz sand dunes. The said sheds were used by tourists as
they await they turn for sandboarding and 4x4 activities.
Laoag City deputy chief of
police Jonathan Papay also said they would help the BFP in their investigation
of the sand dunes incident.
