Ilocos Norte Gov. Ma. Imelda “Imee” R. Marcos has given the honorarium of students who distributed the “Paspas Dur-as”, official publication of the provincial government on April 14, 2014.

The distribution of Paspas Dur-as lasted for two days where a total of 87 student distributors from different schools went to all municipalities of the province.

“It was a great experience for us students because we were able to serve the public. It was also a good way to feel the existence of government which is not during the election time only,” said Ryan Pablo of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), College of Teacher Education (CTE).

He added that they were able to reach even the isolated barangays of Laoag City.

The students who joined the two-day distribution received P500 while the others received P250 because they only joined the group for one day.

Joey de Belen from MMSU, College of Industrial Technology (CIT), said he was grateful to the governor for their honorarium as it was a big help for his education.

“I was not only after the honorarium but also with the experience that I had. I enjoyed it a lot,” Joey added.

The Paspas Dur-as distributors are now also Sirib Express volunteers. Both Pablo and De Belen said they were recruited by the Sirib Express volunteers and are looking forward again for the next Paspas Dur-as distribution.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
