Rice, fertilizer subsidy boost Vintar’s rice production

Vintar, Ilocos Norte—Farmers in this town’s continue to avail rice and fertilizer subsidy from the local government.


Vintar councilor Oscar Diza, chairperson of the committee on agriculture said that starting this May, extension workers from the municipal agriculture office has been visiting farmers in the barangays to offer rice and fertilizer subsidy to interested beneficiaries.


Under the local government’s rice program, each farmer-beneficiary can avail of rice and fertilizer subsidy through a 50-50 sharing scheme.


Vintar, having the largest land area in the province of Ilocos Norte has been recently awarded as among the 48 top rice producing municipalities and cities in the country along with Laoag City. Each was awarded with P1 million check.


For Ilocos Norte, this is now the second time that the province was among to top rice producing-province in the country since the Department of Agriculture’s launched the Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers Awards in 2011 under Pres. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III’s term.


The Agri-Pinoy Rice Achievers Awards aims to encourage the full support and participation of local government units, irrigators’ associations (IAs), small water impounding systems associations (SWISAs) and agricultural extension workers (AEWs) and to recognize their efforts and contribution in prioritizing rice-related projects, using quality seeds and appropriate technologies for attaining high rice sufficiency in the Philippines.


The municipal government of Vintar hopes to sustain the award hence agriculture workers here continue to engage farmers on the latest hybrid rice varieties and technology breakthroughs to further boost their productivity.


Aside from rice, the rich agriculture municipality is also engaged in planting high value crops and livestock.



It was learned that the one million peso award will be used by the municipality to purchase of a 4x4 vehicle to service farmers in this town's upland and remote villages.

Free dormitories eyed for Nueva Era students in LC, Batac
