Laoag City,—The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is set to inspect the on-going rehabilitation works where the 150-megawatt Burgos wind power farm is now fully operational.

To ensure the proper implementation of the approved rehabilitation plan covering the Forest Land Use Agreement (FLAG) of the Energy Development Corporation’s wind power generation in Burgos, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Juan de los Reyes Jr. said  an inspection and assessment team composed of at least six representatives from the Community Environment and Natural Resources office in neighboring Bangui town, Environmental Management Bureau, Forest Management Services and the local government unit of Burgos will be going to Burgos any time next week to check on the current situation.

Led by Forester Victor Dabalos of CENRO Bangui, Mr. De los Reyes said the joint validation and inspection of the on-going reinstatement works of the Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project commenced on March 3 and lasted for at least three days.

According to Mr. De los Reyes, it is best to conduct the inspection early while the contractor commissioned by the EDC to implement the rehabilitation works is still there for them to make necessary recommendations in terms of the company’s compliance to the approved rehabilitation plan and prevent further environment degradation in the applied area.

To date, the rehabilitation activity is now approximately 70 percent finished.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity. Residents in this agricultural town derived most of their income from the harvest of high value crops, including rice, tobacco and corn as staple crops. This year, the week-long festivity highlighted a grand parade around the town plaza and a pinakbet cook fest at the municipal gymnasium to showcase the best pinakbet in town. A boodle fight followed suit. Earlier, a fun run was participated by various groups ...
