Pasuquin’s treasury robbed

Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte—The municipal treasurer’s office of this town was robbed on April 6 as P100,000 cash from the office vault, which was forcibly opened, was missing.

The municipal town hall of Pasuquin is located along the national highway going to Cagayan, about 18 kilometers from Laoag City. There was no security guard assigned in the area.

As of press time, all employees of the Pasuquin government were asked to undergo finger print screening and lie detector test, the police said.

According to Pasuquin municipal treasurer Ernelyn Cariaga, this is not the first time that the municipal town hall was robbed in her 35 years of service. She however did not elaborate.

As this developed, Pasuquin Mayor Peter Felix Aguinaldo said they will intensify security operations in the area by setting up CCTV cameras and assign a security guard in the evening.


On March 4, the Currimao municipal treasurer’s office in the second district of Ilocos Norte was also robbed with about P246,000 cash collections and more than P500,000 worth of checks were taken.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
