LC police nabs top alleged drug personality

Laoag City—Police Supt. Jeffrey T. Gorospe announced that one of the alleged top 10 drug personalities in the city identified as Clarence Nathaniel Tangonan of Barangay 39 Sta. Rosa this city was arrested for violation Republic Act 9165, or the anti-illegal drugs act.

Mr. Gorospe said Mr. Tangonan was arrested on March 8, 2015 at about 2:50 pm through a buy bust operations at Barangay 39 here.

Arrested along with Mr. Tangonan were Frederick Aguinaldo, Sammy Sampayan and Roderick Agustin all of Barangay 10 in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte.

Mr. Gorospe also disclosed that at 4 pm of the same day, Mr. Sampayan’s cellphone received a text message warning them of an operation in the area and asking them to be careful. The text message came from Mr. Sampayan’s brother, himself a prime suspect in a series of robberies in the city.


The suspects were brought to the City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.

Marcos town celebrates 3rd Pinakbet Festival

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte—Taking pride of this town ’s favorite Ilo cano dish, locally known as pinakbet, a mix of indigenous vegetables steamed in fish sauce, residents here ushered the opening of the third Pinakbet festival. “Pinakbet” came from the contracted Ilokano word ‘pinakebbet ’ which means “ shrunk ” or “shriveled.” As a way of thanksgiving, the Pinakbet festival is a repository of the town ’ s “ani” [harvest] festival being celebrated every month of March but this was later moved to December to accommodate more balikbayans wanting to join the festivity.
