According to very reliable sources, the top honcho of a
hospital in the province is under investigation by the Philippine Drug
Enforcement Agency because of, well, suspected drug abuse. Allegedly, there are
anomalies in the storage and consumption of high-end pain relievers in the
hospital, and all signs show that such is orchestrated by the top official.
Apparently, a proper accounting and inventory reveals that addictive opiates
under the hospital’s control are not all used for and by the patients.
It is bad
enough that the hospital is in very dire straits—as manifested by its lack of
equipment, delayed salaries, and a wanting medical staff—but this executive’s
misadventure, in addition to those he has been involved in previously,
complicates the picture further. People are wondering why local officials who
have jurisdiction over the hospital find much difficulty letting go of this
nefarious doctor whose professional and personal troubles are burying the
institution deeper into its grave. It could be politics, or maybe the doctor
also knows about skeletons in other people’s closets?
Your guess
is as good as ours.
