Takbo
Para Sa Pasko has become a tradition in the north every December. The
holidays seem incomplete in Ilocos without the shouts, cheers and laughter of
runners—beginners and veterans alike—rushing toward the finish line of the said
fun run.
It
was in 2011 when the Bad Circle Runners hosted the first edition of Takbo Para Sa Pasko. The registered runners
then were less than 300. But the number of participants rapidly increased in
the following years. Runners from Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union,
Metro Manila and other places flock yearly at the starting line of this run for
a cause.
The
latest edition of Takbo Para Sa Pasko
was held last December 6 in San Vicente, Ilocos Sur—the compound of GMA Ilocos
served as the start/finish line. More than 600 runners from different places
and ages supported the event. The route included Vigan which is recently
declared as one of the Seven Wonders Cities of the World.
In
this year’s edition, the staff of 24 Oras Ilokano actively joined in the
planning and implementation. Thus, the proceeds of the running event will go
the outreach projects and scholarship program of the said news program. At
present, the Bad Circle Runners and 24 Oras Ilokano are supporting scholars in
high school and college. One of their scholars is taking up BS Information
Technology in AMA Laoag.
According
to some runners, they are consistently supporting Takbo Para Sa Pasko because it is giving them not only a chance to
run but also a chance to share their blessings to the less fortunate. For them,
it is their instrument of sharing—an event to lift the spirits of others.
Besides
the yearly Takbo Para Sa Pasko, the
Bad Circle Runners are also active in different projects for the poor. This
coming December 27, in cooperation with GMA Ilocos, they will be holding an
outreach program in Laoag City. Rice, groceries and others gifts will be
distributed to the indigent families. Feeding and parlor games for kids will
also be held in the said program.
At
present, the officers and committees of the Bad Circle Runners are again busy
planning and deliberating for their projects for 2015. Among their possible
projects for next year is a series of medical and dental missions in the
different barangays in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra.
Truly,
the sweetest reason to unite is for us to be one in the spirit of sharing.
