PNP ready for Yuletide season

Laoag City—The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified police operations all over the region to ensure security and safety of its constituents during and after the Christmas and New Year’s celebration.

Ilocos Norte police provincial director P/Sr. Supt. Antonio Mendoza said the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office has started its aggressive campaign against illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices to ensure zero casualty during the merry-making activities.

In a related development, the PNP regional office reiterated its serious effort to go after the illegal retailers/sellers of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics and be vigilant against those who do not comply with safety guidelines.

“I am directing all field commanders to strictly implement the provisions of RA7183 (An Act regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices) and to intensify the conduct of security patrols in places of convergence in coordination with other concerned law enforcement agencies, local government units and private security providers,” said PNP regional director P/Chief Supt. Roman A. Felix.

He also ordered the taping of firearm muzzles of all police personnel to avoid indiscriminate firing of guns especially during the New Year’s revelry.

Mr. Felix likewise reminded the public to be cautious in using firecrackers and fireworks to prevent accidents.

“There are still alternative ways of making the holiday season loud and merry other than these pyrotechnic devices that pose risks to health and public safety,” Mr. Felix stressed.

The PNP regional director likewise said that police presence will be intensified especially in places of convergence aside from establishing police assistance centers (PAC).


He further emphasized that aside from increased police visibility, the PNP will pursue its campaign against loose firearms, campaign against criminal gangs and personalities to include the implementation of OPLAN “Bakal”, OPLAN “Sita” and other police intervention operations.

Free dormitories eyed for Nueva Era students in LC, Batac
