City—A team from the Department of Trade and
Industry (DTI) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) continue to conduct
surprise visits to stores selling Christmas lights in the city to make sure
they are safe.
Dominador Alberto, DTI senior
trade and development specialist, said customers must also be aware of what
they are buying and always check the mark if these have new import commodity
clearance from 2012 up to present.
As early as November, the
inspection team have been going around shopping arcades to ensure the quality
of goods being sold especially the buying of Christmas lights which is very
crucial during the Yuletide season.
According to the BFP, there
had been cases in the past that Christmas lights were traced as the source of
fire due to short circuit or overheat.
The team also checked the
serial numbers of the importers and distributors.
