Batac
City—The city government here has sought the
support of the Dept. of Trade and Industry for barangay entrepreneurs as they
adopted the “One Tow, One Product” program into “One Barangay, One Product”
project.
Batac councilor Violeta
Daradar-Nalupta, the council’s agriculture committee chairperson, said they
have asked DTI for technology assistance, specifically on manufacturing
processes, and product packaging and labeling.
To make the request official,
the Sangguniang Panlungsod has passed a resolution requesting the DTI to train
the processed meat entrepreneurs at Brgy. Barani in this city.
According to Ms. Nalupta,
main sponsor of the measure, the Barani processed meat has become very
successful as it has now received orders from outside the province.
The problem, she continued,
was their lack of experience in operating the business as they experience
shortage of supplies. Their packaging and labeling also needs improvement, she
added.
Among the products they are
producing include skinless longganisa,
bacon, embutido, and chicken hamonado.
Other barangays here have
also began other ventures among which are mango processing, veggie noodle
production, banana processing, camote
processing, and cornick processing.
