NGCP fulfils school’s dream of having computers

Even in this modern age of smartphones and tablets, it is not uncommon to find schools in the country that do not have modern educational equipment like computers. Outside of Metro Manila, several schools still offer computer classes without computers. McKinley Elementary School in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental is one of those schools.

As a way to improve the quality of education in public elementary schools, NGCP recently donated computers in Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, and Negros Oriental, including McKinley Elementary School.

In January, three schools were given desktop computers, laptops, and tablets to aid the schools’ faculty in teaching and computerizing some of their office systems.

McKinley Elementary School received three brand new desktop computers, two printers, and two slightly used computers. Other schools which benefitted from NGCP’s program were Tobuan Elementary School in Labrador, Pangasinan and Paltit Elementary School in Badoc, Ilocos Norte. Both schools were recipients of one laptop and 10 tablets each.

Local distribution utility Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative, Inc. (INEC) joined NGCP’s initiative by donating a printer to Paltit Elementary School.

A total of 1,080 students from the three schools will benefit from NGCP’s project.

“NGCP is happy to extend support to the schools by providing computers. We hope that the school and the barangay they belong can also help NGCP in safeguarding the power lines in their area,” said NGCP’s Head of Corporate Affairs Department Mr. Nelson F. Cabangon in the turn-over ceremony in McKinley Elementary School last January 28.

During the turn-over ceremonies separately held at the three schools, NGCP also took the opportunity to inform the students of transmission line safety tips to prevent accidents and power interruptions in their communities. Notebooks were also distributed to students during the program.

“We are very grateful to NGCP for making our dream of equipping the school with computers a reality,” said Mr. Jose F. Belono, Jr., School Principal of McKinley Elementary School, in appreciation of NGCP’s efforts.

NGCP is a privately-owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining, and developing the country’s power grid. It transmits high-voltage electricity through “power superhighways” that include the interconnected system of transmission lines, towers, substations, and related assets. As a corporation with a public service orientation, NGCP partners with relevant institutions to support the communities hosting its transmission facilities, which it considers as true partners in nation-building.
