Helen Grace Villanueva Go heads Candonians of Hawaii

Candonians of Hawaii [CoH] is considered always lucky as newly elected officers led by President Helen Grace Villanueva Go, an energetic registered nurse and community leader is in power. She is the newest volunteer [with her other officers] who joined us recently with the United Filipino Council of Hawaii [UFCH] and Oahu Filipino Community Council [OFCC] and partner organizations for Feeding the Homeless and Adopt a Highway OFCC Special Projects chaired by this writer.
 
Recently, Helen Go and other officers were installed by Congressman Eric Singson, (Ilocos Sur, 2nd district), who also served as guest speaker.

Helen Go attended Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, St. Jude College of Nursing and St. Jude Institute, Candon City. CoH is in good hands.

Other officers are: Neil Gazo, 1st vice president: Joey Centeno, 2nd vice president; Elisabeth Gazo, recording secretary; Josephine Gazo, Corresponding secretary; Melba Roque, treasurer; Grace Rous, assistant treasurer; John Guilambo, Auditor.

Public Relations Officers: Cesar Garperio, Ted Langas, Arnold Mangay ayam, Greg Wong, Abraham Lopez.

Board of Directors: Dr. Ignacio Torres, Rey Custodio, Bernadette Fajardo, Samuel Sonson, Cesar Fajardo, Dr. Ben Galindo, Naty Lagaso, Dr. Remy Sonson, Delia Wong.

Maui Representative: Angelita Dela Pena; Kona Rep: Pauline Valdez; Hilo Rep: Enrico Tejada; Molokai Rep: Meloticia Ragunton Sta. Maria. Legal Adviser: Atty. Alex Sonson.

According to our source, Candonians of Hawaii was originally called Sons & Daughters of Candon and was founded in 1948 as Dimas Gaston, the founder and first president for 1948-1952.

Other organizers and members are the following: Claudio Bello, Gaudencio Garabiles, Jose Felipe Bautista, Fausto Galace, Agapito Galope, Johnny Villanueva, Johnny Alayay, Paul Rendon, Anacleto Gamad, Jose Astrere and Miguel Lopez.

One of their purposes for this organization is to provide help for the death of the family which they call "Saranay". In the early 1990's, Sons and Daughters of Candon was changed to Candonians of Hawaii.

CoH Past Presidents are the following:
1948 – 1952: Dimas Gaston; 1952 – 1956: Paul Rendon; 1956 – 1960: Felipe Bautista; 1960 – 1964: Miguel Lopez; 1964 – 1984: Presidency has been alternated between Paul Rendon, Felipe Bautista and Miguel Lopez; 1984 – 1988: Rey Custodio; 1988 – 1990: Miguel Lopez; 1990 – 2000: Rey Custodio; 2000 – 2004: Dr. Ignacio Torres; 2004 – 2008: Bernadette Dario Fajardo; 2008-2010: Samuel Sonson; 2010-2014: Dr. Ignacio Torres.

Projects include scholarship since 2001.


Candonians of Hawaii is a member of Ilocos Surian Association of Hawaii and the Oahu Filipino Community Council.

PGIN honors Ilocano heroes of past, present through Heroes Walk

Ricardo Nolasco Jr., owner of Hannah’s Beach Resort and Convention Center in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte passed away on Wednesday evening, July 11, 2018.
