Laoag City—Three days before the New Year’s celebration, Laoag City police officers sealed their firearms muzzle on Dec. 29 to prevent indiscriminate firing during the holiday revelries.

Led by Laoag City police chief P/Supt. Jeffrey T. Gorospe, the police force including 25 Civil Security Unit based at the Laoag City Hall presented their guns for the sealing of muzzles as witnessed by reporters here.

According to Mr.  Gorospe, the nationwide taping of muzzles is a way of showing to the public and all concerned gun holders that they should avoid indiscriminate firing during the holidays.

The police said violators will be subjected to punishment as uniformed personnel will be deployed to strictly monitor those who will be caught firing their guns.

Last year, the Philippine National Police recorded 28 victims of stray bullets all over the country on New Year celebrations. This includes a sleeping two-year-old boy of San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte who was hit by stray bullet while his family was busy partying outside the house.
