Batac City—An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Walking
the talk, the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MD)
is encouraging all hospital goers to observe regular hand-washing by putting up
hand washing facilities in every entrance and exit points of the hospital’s
buildings.
In
support of the worldwide commemoration of Global Hand-washing Day, Dr. Ma.
Lourdes Otayza, MMMH&MC chief of hospital said the hospital wants to
highlight the importance of washing hands with soap especially when entering
the hospital facilities to ensure proper hygiene and protection.
As
the center for health and wellness in the region, the Batac hospital is
the first medical facility in the region to have a hand-washing area in every
hallway of the building’s entrance and exit to instil awareness in having a
cleaner and better environment.
Participated
in by private and public organizations originally created for children and
schools, the Global Hand-washing Day is being commemorated every October 15 to
promote the culture of hand-washing with soap.
First
launched in 2008, over 120 million children in more than 70 countries including
the Philippines participated in a simultaneous hand-washing with soap.
Since
then, more and more community and national leaders including public and private
organizations have used Global Hand-washing Day to promote hand-washing with
soap.
