Physical fitness is now first and foremost on the life of every human being wanting to reach the age of senior citizens.

This is exactly why the LC’s Barangay Senior Citizens Association of Laoag City, Inc., led by members of the board, incorporated the “Early Morning Walk”, around the barangay, a distance of more than two kilometers into their week-long program of activities, held on October 1 to 7. With the help of street lights that brightens their way, 29 elderlies participated in the walk on October 2, at 4:20 to 5:00 in the morning, finishing at the garden of Lola Angelita Toribio, host of the day’s celebration. Included in the highlights were community singing, action songs, dancing and parlor games, besides the birth of the host.

When asked about this celebration, a board member replied: Elders will die knowing we did what we could to help make the world’s physical fitness enjoyable. It is not that senior citizens lack the imagination, it is that we believe we are doing so that others may follow. Indeed, a person is worth not for what he has, not even for who he is, but, for what others have become because of him. As elders, jogging and walking is much more than a good way to lose weight, worries and even when depressed. It is our recipe for making the world a more harmonious home in company with others.

The following is the schedule of the activities: Oct. 1 – visiting the sick; Oct. 2 – Early morning walk; Oct. 3 – Senior’s Center upkeep; Oct. 4. – Elders-appokos get together; Oct. 5 – Go to your own churches; and Oct. 6-7 Tues – simultaneous cleaning and greening.
